Puerto Cortes is located in the northern Caribbean waters of Honduras and is the only deep-water port in Central America. It is one of the largest seaports in Central America and the 36th largest port in the world. Puerto Cortes is equipped with advanced container facilities and handles various types of cargo, including dry bulk, liquid bulk, general cargo, and refineries. Approximately 1,500 vessels dock at the port each year, handling a significant portion of Honduras' trade. The port is an important component of the "Container Security Initiative" with cooperation from nearby U.S. Customs to ensure inspection and assessment of goods before shipment. Puerto Cortes is also located near the industrial zone of northern Honduras, with a large natural harbor capable of accommodating multiple large vessels. It is designated as a secure port and exports to destinations such as the United States, Far East, and Europe annually.
